On April 29, “ToGetHer” contestant Riwon took to her personal social media to issue a heartfelt statement, acknowledging that she had engaged in private content streaming on three separate occasions: from 2016–2018, late 2021 to early 2022, and early to mid-2024, totaling roughly three years.

While admitting to having run a private channel, she clarified that she had conducted only six offline meetings, all of which were limited to clean, no-contact dinner dates.

“I take full responsibility for not disclosing this past to the production team beforehand,” she wrote. “My personal circumstances are no excuse.”

The scandal has been particularly intense because “ToGetHer” centers on authentic queer experiences and Riwon’s past sparked unfair doubts about her sexual orientation.

In her statement, Riwon was clear, “I am a woman who loves women.” She revealed that she first realized her sexual identity in middle school and had a serious relationship with a woman for over 2.5 years.

Riwon went on to explain a darker chapter of her past. In an attempt to deny her true self, she dated a man — someone who later weaponized her sexuality. “He helped me shut down my stream, but when I tried to leave, he threatened to out me to my family and friends. I endured violence, confinement, hacking, even death threats,” she disclosed. “I wanted to take control of my story. That’s why I joined ‘ToGetHer’ — not to hide, but to come out on my own terms.”

Despite facing public backlash, Riwon offered no excuses, “Yes, I engaged in inappropriate broadcasts. Yes, I dated a man before filming. It’s all true, and I don’t deny it.” She added that she now has a different job and believed that chapter of her life was over.

But the hurt caused by the scandal wasn’t lost on her. “I am deeply sorry for bringing harm to the show and to the wonderful people who appeared alongside me.”

Riwon also voiced concern about the bigger picture, “If my story fuels prejudice against the LGBTQ+ community, it breaks my heart. The blame lies with me alone, not the queer community. They are the victims, along with the production team and the viewers. I take full responsibility.”

Netizens react:

  • Do you still not understand what camming is? Whatever you do, it can’t be shielded.
  • Live your life as you have been. Don’t use LGBTQ+ people to indulge in self-pity. If you’re making money by dancing and exposing yourself, why come out into the light?
  • Is it really resolved in just a month before making an appearance? 😂 I wasn’t even interested in that show, so I didn’t care about this person’s controversy either, but after reading the apology, I can’t see any sincerity at all. 😂
  • The camming itself is already terrible, but appearing on mainstream media is crazy. What kind of shield is that???
  • Such shows have a negative impact on women’s rights.

While Riwon’s past may complicate the narrative, her honesty invites a broader, more compassionate conversation.
